In this Poodling Around podcast – a podcast that often supports Catapult PR’s work in the field of tourism and travel PR, as well as general leisure, gardening, food and drink, pet and retail PR, Jane Hunt offers unique and personal insights into a trip to the Italian capital city.
Jane talks about the particular things to note in Rome, if travelling in one of the summer months, when heatwaves and extraordinary temperatures seem to be the norm. She also channels her travel PR agency knowledge, to offer tips on what to do and what not to do in Rome. This draws on both her own experience in the city and the knowledge she has acquired during the course of her travel and tourism PR and blog writing, with blogs for her travel insurance client, Europesure, often requiring her to suss out the travel risks within key locations and blend insurance advice with general travel writing and inspiring insights into the destinations that a European traveller might wish to visit.
With the podcast offering practical advice, relating to where to visit and how to best go about it, it’s a great asset for anyone who wishes to do what Jane did and throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, or visit some of the key tourism hotspots in Rome, including the Colosseum and St Peter’s.
Jane also highlights what anti-theft measures to take and describes where theft was flagged up to her as a particular issue. She provides details of the clothing and gadgets she used to survive the heatwave in Rome and how to keep the mosquitoes at bay – something of particular relevance after the sign she spotted in the arrivals hall at the airport. And, talking about airports, she also explains how the presence of two can cause some confusion for some travellers.
Jane even whets the appetite by describing where to find the best gelato and offers a little warning when it comes to what to order to eat in Rome.
There is also a section that will be of particular interest to anyone who is engaging in music tourism and making the trip to Rome primarily to see a music concert. This ties in with every useful and good-to-know information about Rome’s taxi services and is actually an essential thing to take on board, if you are going to any sort of late-night event at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.
Overall, this podcast and Jane’s insights provide some useful travel planning thoughts for anyone visiting Rome. With the Jubileo coming up in 2025, this could be useful for many, as thousands more people are expected to descend on the Eternal City for this important Catholic celebration.
Avoid travel issues by listening to this Poodling Around episode, whether that’s fines that you could incur if you don’t observe the local laws, problems on the travel system, or pitfalls encountered when submerged in the visitor experience at major sites.
And, if you fancy escaping Rome for a day, booking yourself on to a train and heading to Rome’s coast, this episode will even explain an option available to you for that.
There is also a very good suggestion when it comes to where to stay in Rome and a particular shout-out to the fantastic reception staff at the Hotel Napoleon.
In fact, this could be dubbed the episode in which a very astute reception manager recognised that Jane is far more into Axl Rose and Guns N’ Roses than she is into Chris Martin and Coldplay, although still able to appreciate the latter, nontheless.
If you are contemplating a visit to Rome, enjoy, sit back and listen to the tips, advice and guidance, as well as learning where Jane is very unlikely to ever visit again, due to the experience she had.
